Located in the Parc Naturel du Haut Languedoc, the common Vintrou has an area of 1138 hectares and a population of 85 inhabitants in the last census. The average altitude is 575 meters.
The Arno River has allowed the construction of the dam Peyres Saints in 1930 for producing electricity. Today we understand better the usefulness of such restraint: the kilowatt / hour of electricity produced (potential energy) and a place of contemplation (tourism, fishing, walking).
There are seventy years, there had only two Black Mountain Lakes Historical (Lampy and Saint-Ferreol) for supplying the Canal du Midi. In 1930, the oblivion of nature was repaired in the immediate vicinity of Mazamet: Lake of the Mountains, which is a beautiful mirror, framed peak Montaud and chain Nore, and is 15 kilometers to the lake Saints-Peyres extends over 200 hectares and whose sinuous shores, small bays bathing the tidy forests of beech and coniferous peninsulas slopes covered with heather, offer at every turn a new spell.
In terms of religion, the village was part of the parish of St. Beaudille of Mouscaillac too remote from people. The Bishop of Castres in 1767 ordered the construction of a church Saint-Mathieu, who in 1772 became the seat of a new parish at the root of the current policy.
