TOWN PRESENTATION
  • The common Pecq is located in a loop of the Seine. This is the only city with Paris and Rouen, to be built on both banks of the river. It extends over 292 hectares and its altitude is 25 meters along the Seine to 97.65 meters at Vignes-Benettes. January 1, 2012, the city was home to 16,744 Alpicois name given to its inhabitants. It is part of the district of Saint-Germain-en-Laye and is the capital of the canton.
  • History:
  • This is the Middle Ages appears the existence of the hamlet of Aupec. Land famous vineyards, Le Pecq is mentioned for the first time in a charter of Childebert III, king of France, 704. The abbey of Saint-Wandrille reign on the field, giving the city a major religious past.
  • But it is the presence of the Seine the hamlet owes its development. Many dealers to avoid tolls important Aupec between Paris and prefer to unload their goods at this port and forwarded by cartage to Paris. Port Aupec becomes a free port where you can unload, storing, handling, transshipping goods to Normandy and Burgundy, and from these provinces to supply the capital. Thus settled in Aupec inns and merchants who harbored and met the current needs of customers frequently renewed. Even after the abolition of privilege Merchants Water Paris in 1672, the port retained high activity for twenty years. He was indeed one of the ports where they landed the materials necessary for the construction of the Palace of Versailles, and then goods for the Court.
  • In 1595, Henry ordered the inhabitants of the fourth to give him Pecq eighteen to twenty acres of land required for the construction of the gardens of Chateau Neuf de Saint-Germain. In compensation, he exempted the Alpicois size and various taxes, privilege they retained until the Revolution. This is due to the presence of the Sun King as the village grows between 1665 and 1682. Farmers and workers moved to Saint-Germain and in the immediate vicinity, to meet the diverse needs of the Court and to build homes that sixty lords are building in this city. It is estimated that at that time, the population of Pecq went from 200 to 800.
  • The delimitation of the common Pecq was carried out in the establishment of the cadastral map in 1822. In 1875, following the subdivision of land Vésinet, a new town was created. Le Pecq then lost a little more than half the territory it had on the right bank. Since these changes, the surface of the town is 292 hectares.
  • At the Restoration, Le Pecq becomes a very active commercial port is selected as the terminus of the first line of French railway, opened August 24, 1837 by Queen Marie-Amélie. The journey from the place of Europe in Paris (Gare Saint-Lazare dates only from 1843) on the right bank of Pecq (current Toyota garage) lasted twenty-five minutes. Tourists flock then attracted by the charm of the village, the approval of its banks and the presence of a large spa, the "French Spa" which operated until 1904.
  • The Parisians will spend their long weekend in the village and there enjoy the pleasures of water 15 km from the capital. From 1878, a steamboat, sort of riverboat with a dining room, provided a daily service from May to September, between the Pont Royal in Paris and Le Pecq. The shuttle was abolished in 1925.
  • Before the Second World War, Le Pecq was still a village of 5000 inhabitants whose houses were grouped on the left bank of the Seine. A part of his land was occupied by gardens and orchards. Post-war reconstruction would make the population evolve rapidly: nearly 7000 inhabitants in 1955, 10,000 in 1960, more than 16,000 in 1970, a figure around which it has now stabilized.
