The name of the town is attested in the 12th century in the forms and Jardetz Jardent (jard grass = hard).

The Church of St. Cosmas and St. Damian was probably built in the early 16th century. The parish is known for a longer period (c. 1320). The bell tower with two bays, like many others in Limousin, was rebuilt during the 18th century and at the end of the 19th century, a diocesan architect proposes a total reconstruction but only a portion of the work was completed and the main door was moved from the west side south of the enclosure of the cemetery. A small tower is vertical to the choir. The work of the 1970s saw the destruction of the stone vault of the nave and the rehabilitation of the structure.

The town has many old buildings (built between the early 17th and late 19th century), including different types of buildings: houses, barns and stables (sometimes overlapping), sheep, swine, but also beautiful ovens, sinks , water mills and dryers chestnuts.

Several monumental crosses within its territory (the seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries), the oldest located near the church.

The centerpiece of the objects preserved in the town is a beautiful shrine gilded copper statuette of St Como, 15th century, it contains the relics of St. Cosmo, Damian, and St. Roch.
