The town of Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré opens the front southwest of the island of Re on a length of 5 km on each side of which over 4 km of sandy beaches. It has an area of 1218 ha.

The permanent population is 2303 people (at last count) and goes into summer season 22/25 000.
