History: Cathar by kindness to the "snowmen", she was martyred: here stood up one of the biggest butchers of history? Cathar stronghold: the city is besieged Lavaur in Spring 1211 by troops of Simon de Montfort. 400 heretics (2 times more than Montsegur!) Perished in the flames while Dame Guiraude of Laurac, lord of the place, is thrown into a well. His story is told in the "Song of the Crusade", one medieval text describing the history of this historic conflict. The Jacquemart (whose legend remains dear to Vauréens) continues to punctuate the hours of this city of traditions.
City history, Lavaur has become in recent years the 3rd economic hub of the Tarn, but it does not mean forgetting its traditions.
