Small village south of Luberon, Lauris is located at the foot of the mountain, right in the Luberon Regional Nature Park, 200 meters. It is 30 km from Aix-en-Provence, 50 km from Avignon and Marseille, 5 km from Lourmarin.
It has a population of 3200 inhabitants. If the Luberon is a haven for tourism, Lauris away from the fashion sites and historic monuments inevitable, is an unknown gem to discover.
In particular see the old village where the castle (not open) and especially the terraces of the castle, recently restored, which is now a public park with free admission. You can relax on the benches in this haven of peace, admiring the magnificent view over the plain of the Durance. In the second terrace is the Garden Conservatory of dyeing plants open from May 15 to October 15.
Its well-preserved old town with its houses, chapels, fountains in the 17th and 18th centuries, its circuit of 3 gardens, and magnificent wrought iron campanile.
Lauris is also an active and festive village, with its carnival in March, the car boot at Pentecost, the night of the guitar in July, the feast of Coucourde and Christmas with its markets and its attractions, not forgetting the Historical Re-enactment in September, where over 100 volunteers from the village, bring to life through the centuries.
Different markets according to season: the creators of art, flowers, and Christmas figurines?? Do not forget every Monday morning on the village square, the weekly market. And from April to December: Saturday afternoon, the farmers' market, the station area.
