TOWN PRESENTATION

Langres: one of the 50 most beautiful cities in France. 12 towers, gates and seven ramparts of 3.5 km. With its high walls, its imposing towers, its many spiers, Langres appears as a proud fortress camped at the gates of the Champagne and Burgundy.

Lung air at the threshold of great Burgundy, green oasis, the country Langres provides an intense feeling of space and freedom. Renowned for the strength of its winter, the mountain Langres, located 500 m above sea level, has a good reputation. This is normal! Here life is tonic, invigorating and the corner fireplace is warm. The summer shows as much enthusiasm and warmth you will find the shade of the forests and the cool springs and lakes are all stops not to be missed!

The famous plateau Langres offers a diverse landscape of rare ecological quality, ideal for recharging.

SIGHTSEEING

Browsing through 3.5 kilometers of its battlements remained spared over the centuries, the town overlooks a vast panorama to the east, it sprawls in successive plans of the Link Lake and the valley of the Marne to the Vosges, leaving sometimes guess the Bernese Alps. To the west, beyond the verdant valley Bonnelle the plateau Langres opens your eyes with its hedgerows and wooded hillsides.

Follow the maze of lanes and the turning of covered walkways, let you tell the story of the city. This is a Gallo-Roman through its ancient monuments, its mosaic of Bacchus and his sculptures very meaningful. It is medieval in its plot and the radiance of his cathedral Cluniac inspiration. The Renaissance, meanwhile, unfolds in elegant mansions, initiating the rich families Langrois a growing comfort in a setting inspired by ancient treaties that traditional civil architecture develop with great sophistication. The installation of many religious communities at the time of the Counter Reformation uses the monumental architectural support as a tool for teaching dramatically. They often contain public institutions today.

Last witness of the evolution of military technology reinforcing this site spur blocked, presumably fortified since the 3rd century, the austere 19th century castle offers a new youth associations and by hosting cultural events.

Langres is like a book of art and history alive. The city has adapted to different times while staying true to herself. Welcoming and generous, she asks only to be discovered.
