TOWN PRESENTATION

Lagos is a small French village, located in south-western France, at the foot of the Pyrenees separating France from Spain in the region of Aquitaine, of which Bordeaux is the regional capital, and in the Pyrénées Atlantiques, whose main city, seat of the General Council and the Prefecture is the city of Pau, the birthplace of King Henri IV.

The department of Pyrenees-Atlantiques consists of two strong cultural entities, the Basque and Bearn. The small village of Lagos is situated in the Bearn, 17 km south of Pau, in the plain of Nay, and is part of the Community of Communes-Vath Vielha, comprising 24 districts around Nay.

The first written evidence of the existence of Lagos date from 1050 but the first real census in 1385 will, as Gaston Phoebus (whose real name is Gaston de Foix, Beam 3rd), Viscount of Bearn, with 18 fires, it ie 18 houses inhabited. Today Lagos has about 500 inhabitants. To the east are 150 hectares of community forests. Around Lagos, 250 hectares of fields and meadows, Lagos characterized mainly by growing corn, the cattle of the blonde d'Aquitaine and milk production. The old town, older homes are typically representative of the habitat of the Béarn plain Nay 18th and 19th centuries.

EVENTS AND CELEBRATIONS

Union Lagos the world: the village began Lagos there fifteen years, to gather all the villages and all towns also calling Lagos.
