Rock shelters discovered in the area indicate that the village was inhabited since prehistoric times but there is no reliable source before the 12th century. In 1167, the fief of Laffite-Toupière is transferred to the Commandery of Knights Templar of Montsaunès by Guilhem de L'Isle and Raymond Latoue. Laffite-Toupière has become one of the possessions of the Hospitaller Order of Saint-Jean. From 1469, the village was incorporated in Guienne, the prerogative of the brother of Louis XI.
SIGHTSEEING
Arriving in the village, you will discover St. Michael's Church, Gothic, featuring an octagonal bell tower. We find one of the first traces of the building in 1488 in an act related litigation between the cathedral chapter of Saint-Bertrand de Comminges to the Commandery of Knights Templar of Montsaunès concerning the right of tithes.
Beside the church, you will see the fort. Raymond de Lescure, Grand Prior of Toulouse and Commander of the Order of the Templars, in 1397 concluded an agreement with the consuls and the villagers for its construction.
At the cemetery, you will notice a tomb of the 19th century. which bears neither name nor date. There are a Napoleonic cocked hat and a sword carved. This would be the tomb in Nanjing limestone a villager who had served under Napoleon. The village had several careers of these light colored stones. They were used for the construction of many buildings.
