At the gates of Brittany, Anjou and between Mayenne La Guerche-de-Bretagne is famous for its large market which is held every Tuesday morning since 1121. It is a pleasure for visitors to wander the streets and go to meet the merchants.

La Guerche-de-Bretagne was once fortified and has gradually built around his "castle", just keep the eleventh wood, then stone a century later. It remains today as the remains of a clod of earth consolidated, visible from the belfry. The last remains of the castle were demolished and used for the construction of the Auditorium in 1790. It was the seat of a high barony and in 1206 William the third Guerche establishes a college that will become a parish church in 1791, then basilica in 1951.

La Guerche-de-Bretagne retains fine examples of houses with porch and timber-framed 17th-and eighteenth, including those of the Place Charles de Gaulle and Rue de Nantes are classified as Historical Monument.

Guided tours of the historic center and the Basilica are offered by volunteers from the Tourist Office.
