Located in the Rhone-Alps, south-eastern department of the Loire, La Grand-Croix is distinguished by its lush natural setting (ranked city flower, 2 flowers). Even if it is all about business, La Grand-Croix has a rich history (past mining).
Since 1973 the township of La Grand-Croix is the capital of 10 municipalities (La Grand-Croix, Loreto, The Horme, Cellieu, Chagnon, Farnay, Saint-Paul-en-Jarez, La Terrasse-sur-Dorlay, Doizieu, Valfleury) and covers an area of 405 hectares.
Its main asset is its proximity to the Regional Natural Park of Pilat. Indeed, thanks to its privileged position (at the edge of the Massif du Pilat) and its altitude, La Grand-Croix offers spectacular views of the town.
Positioned between St Etienne and Lyon, access to La Grand-Croix is fairly simple and rapid since it was on the A47 motorway. In addition, its entrance and exit of the fall in the heart of the city which greatly facilitates travel.
La Grand-Croix therefore lies close to several major cities including Lyon (40 km), Saint-Etienne (18 km) and Clermont-Ferrand (165 km), but is especially close to many other communication channels, including station Rive de Gier (3 km), the station of Saint-Chamond (6 km) but also the Lyon-Saint Exupéry located 63 kilometers from here and that Andrézieux Bouthéon (33 km).
Because of its location, the land of the town are very popular with merchants and craftsmen. The motorway makes the area very attractive for industrial industries.
- The Platiere was: A farm, property and Dorel stamping plant Ets Deville with only the pestle has been preserved. The wheel that you see on the park entrance is not on the site itself but the plant that gave Chevillon deforming the name "Chavillon. A wheel of 3.5 tons placed on a suitable symbol of the experience of the site. In fact, this wheel that was used for "aiguiserie" tools found acclaim at the southern entrance of the park on the road. On the north side entry garages will be found rather an atmosphere of orchards where you can take the time to admire the trees in the park often original.
- There are nearly 20 years: An industrial zone was created and first amusement park was created on the central part of the site.
- Today: The amusement park extends over the entire place called "the Platiere" is an area of 7 ha. The realization of this park has been achieved through the commitment of the previous elected office prosecuted by the new municipality. This exemplary commitment underlines the importance of making the city "city park gate Pilat" a pride for all its inhabitants. The goal is to open to the public this exceptional site, while maintaining a natural and healthy living. The river Gier located at the lowest point of the park allows for overhanging offering from the top of the plot surface water framed by natural vegetation. Park Platiere is above all an invitation to stroll, an ideal place to relax and dream. The addition of street furniture can come and enjoy this place, to promote opportunities for sharing and socializing. Benches placed under pergolas can encourage reading. Sportsmen also have their place with a fitness trail, skateboard park, roller track and tennis. For the safety and serenity of all, the park is not open to motor vehicles, only bicycles children can travel on paved paths. Dogs must be kept on a leash.
