In southern France, nestled in the c? Heart of the Massif des Maures, La Garde-Freinet old village of Provence, has preserved its authenticity. It is reached by picturesque roads winding through a wild and dazzling forest of diverse species alternating with typical Mediterranean crops.
Its position at the top of Sentinel Pass earned him the appellation of "guard", hence the name La Garde-Freinet, and the names of people: the Fraxinois, more commonly called Gard, of "Gardiòu" in Provencal.
Whoever takes the road through the village to reach the peninsula of St Tropez can not remain insensitive to the beauty of the landscape: steep slopes and wild north, those soft, covered with chestnut trees and vineyards to the south. What color and life in our country!
Overlooking the village today, Fort Freinet dominates only path that connects the valley of Argens in the Gulf of St. Tropez. It offers an exceptional view of the massive pre-Alpine, the Mediterranean and the forest landscape of the Moors.

To access the trail formed by the stairs where it runs along the cliff to the gates of the village, where you can see the remains of some thirty dwellings carved into the slate. They are terraced on several different levels and are protected by a ditch of 8 to 10 m deep.
The conditions for the destruction of Fort Freinet are known, but its origin, the questioning of the Saracen occupation or function of some homes, fueling discussions on a site that has not yet yielded all its secrets.
