Located between Le Mans and Chartres La Ferté-Bernard is a dynamic industrial center. The main activities are the agri-food industry with meats that make rillettes, sausages and ready meals for the whole France. There are also electronic industries, sub-contractors to the automotive and industrial millwork.
La Ferté-Bernard is also an important commercial center behind the Eastern Townships of the Sarthe and east of the Orne.
The proximity of the A11 and the Paris-Brest route contributes to the development of important services.
La Ferté-Bernard is a town born in the Middle Ages and built on a swamp whose channels can be visited by boat.
Its rich heritage has won this county, and the 86 municipalities that joined the label Country of Art and History.
- Heritage: La Ferté-Bernard retains a rich heritage from the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Do not forget to visit the impressive Notre Dame des Marais (1450-1596), the Porte Saint Julien (late fifteenth), halls (1536) and its many old houses and mansions.
- Sports & Recreation: Near the pond, the equipment used to organize many competitions (triathlon, soccer, volleyball, basketball, rugby, martial arts, swimming, gymnastics). The bike sports Fertois includes over 30 sports sections and the municipality organizes discovery activities of sports for children. The city also has two choirs and cultural associations.
- Since the Middle Ages, every Monday morning held an important market that occupies the entire city center. It has more than 20 miles away.
- On Saturday morning, the small market of San Antonio who was standing near the station.
- During the week of the Ascension, the town hosts the festival Artec devoted to the arts and technology. Students from all over France to participate in national robotics competition in Europe.
- The first weekend of September are held 3 days of La Ferte-Bernard, who is the second trade event of the Sarthe after 3 days of Le Mans.

Around La Ferte, the Pays d'Art et d'Histoire du Perche Sarthois offers a wide variety of activities. Walks steam train, explore stately homes, visit the historical center of Saint-Calais. Discovery perch nearby with its many mansions and small museum of St. Gauburge. Forests are interesting to explore especially in Autumn.
