TOWN PRESENTATION
  • Residents of Cross Helléan are called braces.
  • History:
  • La Croix-Helléan was originally part of plou (parish) of Guillac. In the early 12th century. It gave the name "High Ice" at the parish and that of La Croix-Helléan Helléan met. Then in the mid 15th century, this town was dismembered Ice.
  • Low Glac kept his name and gave it to one of two other common name Helléan ( "hel": the "Lean" monk) because the two monasteries that existed in this county. As for the other party, no one knew what name to assign. However, the former plou of Guillac there were three monoliths of 2.30 m in height and 0.30 m wide, called "cross the load" of the time Breton (eighth-ninth centuries). As one of these monoliths was on the new town, he gave the name "Cross Helléan" which means "monk's cross. PARISH La Croix-Helléan was a cure-dependent priory of Saint-Jean-des-Pres. His spiritual leader was usually a regular canon provided by the bishop of Saint-Malo.
  • La Croix-Helléan belonged County Porhoet and senechaussee Ploërmel. In 1790, she lost Helléan and build lives in common LANOUEE Township, district of Josselin and the department of Morbihan. In 1801, she went to the Canton of Josselin and consequently the composition of the new diocese of Vannes, established a parish in 1802, when she recovered her lost Helléan permanently in 1822.

  • Municipality located in north-eastern department of Morbihan, Cross Hellan is located in the borough of Pontivy, Josselin Township north of the RN24 Rennes Lorient.
  • In 1440 ha gather at the 1999 census, 646 inhabitants. This population has stabilized or slightly increased in the last twenty years.
  • The town is bordered on the north by the municipality of La Gree-Saint-Laurent, north and northwest by the municipality of LANOUEE; south-west by the town of Josselin, on the south by the municipality of Guillac; east by the municipality of Helléan.
  • Furthermore, La Croix-Helléan is one of twelve municipalities included in the Communauté de Communes du Pays de Josselin. A number of powers have been transferred (economic development, environment, school transportation, housing policy, tourism ...).

SIGHTSEEING
  • Chapelle Saint-Maude and contemporary stained glass made by Olivier Debre. The chapel is under the patronage of St Maud or Maude, abbot of Breton origin born in the 6th century and whose relic is behind the creation of the town of St Mandé in Val de Marne. This chapel was built by Alain 9th of Rohan from 1431 with the help of the 5th Duke Jean and the gifts of family-Broutay Quelen. The window mullions bedside, the west portal and two twin doors and many expressions carved furnishings reflect the flamboyant style. In the Pits read four coats of Britain with the ermine of France with lilies for the 5th Duke Jean is married to Jeanne de France, a daughter of King Charles 6th of Quelen with holly and Rohan with twins. 9th Alain de Rohan, the initiator of the chapel is married Marguerite of Brittany, sister of Duke John V. The Duke of Brittany, brother of 9th Viscount Alain de Rohan a generous tribute associated with the construction of the chapel in memory of the dead of the battle of Trent, almost a century ago. His father John was 4th in the same gesture St Michael's Field near Auray. In erecting the chapel near the spot of the famous battle and giving the chaplain of the money for Masses and prayers for the dead of the two rival sides of the War of Succession (1341-1364) and the blésistes montfort Rohan expresses his loyalty to Duke reconciler and manifest his faith in the British unit.
  • Church built in the 15th century and renovated at various times. The choir with its Gothic window in the 15th century. In the late 17th century, the church was rebuilt and restored again strongly on the eve of the Revolution. It retains elements of antique furniture, including two Baroque altarpieces in each transept. On the left is a beautiful statue of St. Isidore, patron saint of laborers. The typical tower is covered with slate, the arrows are based on a simple stone tower. Before the church a cross slender granite shows again the name of the parish.
  • Tomb in the parish church dating from the early 16th century: John Quelon died in 1493 contributed to the decoration of the chancel of the church which is located the tomb of a nobleman From Broutay and his wife. The tomb is covered with carved stone lying in the man in armor, sword in hand, the woman dressed as the court of Anne de Bretagne. Jean-Yves Coppy in his work on high-lying Breton wrote that imitation most notable tomb of Philippe de Montauban Chancellor of Anne of Brittany and his wife is at the Cross Helléan. This would date the tomb of the early 16th century.
  • Pietà 16th century wooden polychrome. The statue represents a blank supporting Christ after his crucifixion. Both are expressive faces and body movements are smoothly cast. The Pieta is in the tradition of the Breton sculptor of the time blazing.
  • Cross, crosses, fountains.
  • Cross the load: towards the 13th century, this cross pathée, granite monolith, recalls the origin of the parish, which derives the 1st part of his name with the invention of the Holy Cross. Before the revolution, the parish is priory-cure which is the abbey of St. Jean des Prés Guillac. The head of the parish is a canon regular of St Jean des Pres, provided by the Bishop of St Malo.
