According to history, a lord named Quintus created a small farm cultivated by settlers. The operation took the name of its owner and Villa Quintus (or 'Quintio') was due to alterations 'Quincheys' and 'Quinchay'. Later, a chapel was erected the chapel Holy Mary of Quinchay. And over time it became the Chapel Guinchay.
This village located 12 km from Macon, bordering the departments of Ain, Rhone, Saone-et-Loire, is the chief town of the following municipalities: Chaintré, Chan, Chasselas, Creches-sur-Saone , Leynes, Pruzilly, Romaneche-Thorins, Saint-Amour-Bellevue, Saint-Romain-des-Iles, Saint-Symphorien-d'Ancelles and St. Vérand.
It has about 3350 inhabitants, covers an area of 1250 hectares and is 200 m above sea level.
La Chapelle-de-Guinchay experiencing life, commercial and large scale. Two hiking routes: they take you to discover beautiful landscapes: 1) The "Valley of the Poor" 10 km - 2) "The Bouttières" 4 km.
