At the heart of the Parc Naturel Régional Livradois Forez La Chaise-Dieu offers a unique unspoilt forests, deep valleys and rivers very pure, rich architectural heritage, cultural and musical prestigious and peaking at an average altitude of 1 000 m.
The District of La Chaise-Dieu includes 11 municipalities with an area of 17 491 ha, of which 4 200 ha of agricultural land (24%) and 11 500 ha of coniferous (66%). The population of the township is close to 2 200 inhabitants.

Three centuries later, a former monk became Pope La Chaise-Dieu under the name of Clement VI. Very attached to his monastery home, he would be buried in an abbey church worthy of his time.
The construction of the present Gothic church began in 1344 under the orders of the supervisor of the Palais des Papes in Avignon. The façade, towers and tower Clementine were completed in 1376 in a style combining religious art and architecture defensive.
From this glorious past of this city, so rich in 4 000 people, we still have a remarkable heritage, reclaimed over time and setting of the prestigious Music Festival La Chaise-Dieu, founded in 1966 by the Hungarian pianist Georges Cziffra.
Do not forget to admire the Dance Macabre, amazing fresco of the fifteenth, the beautifully carved choir stalls and topped with tapestries, a masterpiece of the high plain of the early sixteenth century, around the tomb of Clement VI in the choir the abbey.

Eleven scenes depicted by life-size figures, referring to the monastic life of the Benedictine abbey. This museum was designed by an architect of the waxworks.
