The many users of the national 516, La Tour du Pin leads to Aix-les-Bains and Chambery, La Bâtie-Montgascon familiar, alive and lively town, and stopping place halfway between Lyon and the heart of Savoy .
But how many know it was a time known as The Red Cross of Lower Dauphiné, indicating the remarkable prosperity of the silk industry in this small town, an old story that is intertwined with the weaving in the region.
History:
For centuries, people settled on the territory of La Batie, as evidenced, in the absence of archaeological remains, the hamlets of Trévignieux and Evrieux whose names are of Gallo-Roman. Not surprising for a town that lies along the old Roman road from Aosta to Vienna.
The name of the Built remains an enigma despite extensive research of local historians.
The Built probably evokes some castle or fortified house, like that of Avolin. But what are these doing here Gascon? Perhaps a band of troopers who at the time of the Great Companies, marked so hard so its passage in the walls that gave them their name. Unless it was a certain Gascon troupe came here to elect the return home of Italian wars? Attractive hypothesis, legends or reality?
The cradle of the village is located, around the 13th century, the hamlet of Avolin, which housed not far from the castle, now called Castle Burnt "and destroyed the revolution, there are only a few stones buried beneath the brambles, the first hovels clustered around its church and its cemetery.
Then the houses are grouped around the old town church under the patronage of Saint-Symphorien, before it was demolished in the late 19th century to make way for the current Town Hall Square.
Rural Village to be harvested wheat, rye, buckwheat, walnuts and chestnuts. A few vines and a few beasts complete productions. From the 17th century there are still at The Built a textile tradition, as evidenced by the presence in the civil status of many "carders hemp" and weavers. Later it will be the silk will live the country.
The Common La Bâtie-Montgascon has its registers of civil status since 1636. The information they provide are many and varied and help uncover the life of the village for four centuries.
