Any history of Jugon jewel of Penthievre, revolves around water. Yesterday fundamental defense, today center of tourism and recreation. A stream of the city, formerly called "the Jugon" gave its name to the city.
Born in a cove, backed by a long and beautiful lake 4 km Jugon is an oasis amid a sea of greenery.
Its architectural heritage, with its granite houses and its central place, proudly recalls the past Jugon, stronghold Penthievre at the time of the Dukes of Brittany.
Do not be fooled by the quiet charm of this small city, it conceals a strategic role in the history of Britain.
Traversed by two rivers, one feeding the large pond (the Jugon renamed Rosette) and two branches of the river Arguenon Jugon has always had an exceptionally rich water. Therefore, several mills were built on these rivers (flour mills, mill to turn tan hides into leather), as well as fisheries. The need for water was also brought into these rivers to install multiple dyeing wool. Sheep farming was important in the region. A multitude of washing still flourishes along the river from the city.
