The Island of Arz (In Arh in Breton) is long lived (4000 years BC v.). Like the rest of the Gulf of Morbihan, it has been occupied by Celts, Venetians, Romans and many Bretons who came to this fertile land. In the 11th century, the island is divided between two priories who established farms, mills and churches. The growth of maritime trade involves the construction of houses of sailors and captains hence its nickname of the captains of the island.
