The town is situated at the crossroads of the county's tourism Gers, Gironde and Landes, and 1:30 from the sea and 2h from the Pyrenees.

Houeillès, capital of Canton formed in medieval times of two units attached to the dukedom of Albret: Lugue the country and the Barony of Durance. The district now depends on the borough of Nerac.

The date of construction of the church spreads the early 12th to the 16th century. From the second half of the 19th century, the region has drawn a prosperous logging. At the end of the Second World War, fires have destroyed the local economy and contributed to the exodus of the population. Today's economy is based on forestry and tourism.
