The city was created by Sully and architecture to the perfect geometry drawn by Salomon de Brosse.

It was then the capital of the Principality of Boisbelle Sovereign, independent and recognized as such by the kingdom of France. The Principality has long enjoyed many privileges, including exemption from the salt tax and military service, minting its own currency, or the enactment of its own laws.

• The remains of the former Principality are still visible in many places. The city retains the layout of streets. The old houses reminiscent of the rich past of the city created by Sully.
• The village of La Borne, a former border of the Principality, is world famous for its pottery-making. Many potters settled in the village or nearby towns.

• Ivanoff The museum presents a retrospective of the work of the Bulgarian artist.
• The Ceramic Design Center displays works of fifty potters and potters La Borne and surroundings, and also presents temporary exhibitions.
• The pottery museum offers seasonal exhibitions on the history of local pottery.
