Close to world famous tourist attractions (Lascaux. ..) Hautefort offers all the ingredients for a charming holiday in the Land of Man.
Visible from afar, the village of Hautefort has the most beautiful and most impressive castle style classic throughout the Perigord. Baron Maxence Damascus helped forge close links with the population. Each year he gave a feast in which all residents were invited and received wonderful gifts. Today this commitment continues to the castle and finds himself in local history.
During the revolution, the inhabitants of a neighboring municipality created a militia to come and destroy Hautefort the Hautefort, got wind of the plot, their melted bronze and copper to make weapons and oppose the project.
More recently, in 1968, after a fire ravaged part of the castle, the solidarity and generosity that was expressed towards the Baroness de Bastard showed again that the commitment Hautefort feels for his castle .
One of the peculiarities of Hautefort is its predisposition to see the birth and welcome people of culture, artists, poets and writers. Some places are experiencing a good period and then gradually fall back into anonymity. At Hautefort, history has never ceased to live.
Middle Ages to the present day, Bertran de Born in Eugene Roy, Hautefort continues every day to build its history!
SIGHTSEEING
Castle Hautefort:
The elegant silhouette of the castle Hautefort looming atop a plateau overlooking the valleys of Bauza and Heavy, two tributaries of Auvézère. In the 17th century, the medieval fortress becomes a house of pleasure. Gradually abandoning his defensive unit for the approval of a classical architecture, the new castle reflects the power of the lords of Hautefort.
The apartments, reception rooms, the chapel, the tower of Britain (the oldest castle) and the parks are open to visitors.
The classic castles are built usually on the plains to facilitate access to adjoining gardens. Here, visitors look out onto the embroidery box of French garden and enjoy the view over the surrounding countryside particularly well preserved. The English garden, designed by Count Choulot, one of the greatest landscape painters of the 19th century, offers particularly extensive and varied walks.

Former hospice Hautefort:
Former hospice Hautefort exudes a strength and a lofty image, in this village of Perigord Perigord Noir. Founded in 1669 by Jacques-Francois Marquis of Hautefort following a royal edict of Louis 14th in 1662 which advocated the creation of provincial areas of poor reception, it remains a rare type of the hospital foundation.
Since 1994, it houses a museum of medicine with one hand a historical part about living in this building (reconstruction of a sick room, exposed the political, economic and social aspects of 17th century .. .) and also a section on the history of medicine told through permanent and temporary exhibitions.
If in the beginning, this remarkable building was a social purpose, he quickly became a venue for the sick. From 1747, the Sisters of Nevers, whose congregation had a great reputation in caring for the sick are called to officiate in the former hospital. They will remain until 1995 Hautefort. Soldiers of the First World War have been treated in this place.
Museum open daily in April, May and October from 10am to 12pm and from 14h to 18h, from June to September from 10 to 19. Opening in October, Monday to Friday from 10am to 12pm and 14pm to 18pm.
