The common Haute-Rivoire is extremely wide and is crossed by two medium-sized rivers and numerous streams.

The topography is fairly steady, with slopes slightly accentuated.

The village is first mentioned in 918 as Alta Rivoria, but it's old French yAU Ravouere that people derive their name Taravouériens.
