This village is located deep in a fertile valley watered by a small stream (of the Ru Vallan). At the site of a Roman villa were found the remains of an oven and statues that can be admired in the Archaeological Museum of Auxerre.

In the Middle Ages, the village had an important role: a castle (Castle Gaillard) protected the lands of the bishops of Auxerre incursions from the south, a provost dispensed justice and received sizes for the entire southern Auxerrois .
