Gy Grandfather is a small city rich with character of its history. The castle dominates the village was the residence and property of the Archbishops of Besancon. This is the 12th century that Archbishop William de la Tour decided to fortify what we then called the "Mount Gy. A village was built castral with watchtowers and walls. Many were the archbishops who succeeded in command of the village with an exceptional passion for growing grapes. At its peak, the vineyard of the township spread over 1000 hectares. The sunshine of the exposure of slopes gylois profited greatly to the reputation of the wine that was produced was exported to Germany as far as the table of notables who liked a lot.
