A little history ...

Guiche name is mentioned from the ninth century in the form Guissen, Guixune.

The presence of Guiche lords from the 11th century to look to the existence of the first castle at that time. Guiche becomes part of Navarre, Pamplona with its capital. In 1257, the Bayonne set fire and destroy it. It was rebuilt during the 14th century and received the form we know today. It is mainly in the Middle Ages that many events marked the life of the castle. The bloodiest battle, took place in 1449.

The first core habitat appears to have emerged at the foot of the castle. Today the houses are grouped together and extend in the east.

The extremely favorable position Guiche, suggests a certain importance of agriculture long before the existence of Labourd, thanks to its communication by river the village was easily accessible from the earliest times with Bayonne and Dax.

The limestone found in the basement of the village was used locally in the 13th century and probably earlier. The extraction of the stone was mainly developed from the 19th century, with the operation of six careers. The waters of the Adour Bidouze and facilitated the transportation of the stone.
