The common Guémené-sur-Scorff (Ar Gemene) is the chief town of Canton. Guémené-sur-Scorff depends Borough of Pontivy, department of Morbihan (Brittany).

Guémené-sur-Scorff is apparently there, a dismemberment of the former parish primitive Plousquen now disappeared. Guémené exists from the 5th century. There is a feudal mound about 1050, built by Gueg (or Gueg), son of Periou or Piriou (founder of La Roche-Periou in Priziac, son and grandson of Benedic, Earl of Cornwall) and nephew of Alain Canhiart , Earl of Cornwall. Gueg gives his name instead: Kemenet-Gueg (the stronghold of Gueg), now by softening and Guémené abbreviation. Originally Kemenet-Gueg is merely dependent castellany La Roche-Periou in Priziac and a rear-fief County Porhoet. The property of the family Gueg fall in the early 12th century, in the hands of the Rohan family. Alain becomes 1st, around 1120, owner Guémené.
