Grossouvre is a municipality located in the department of Cher (central region). The city belongs to Grossouvre Sancoins Township and the Borough of Saint-Amand-Montrond. Its inhabitants are called Grossouvrois (es). They numbered 238 in the 1999 census, 254 to the DE1990. Its area is 15.9km ².

The town was founded in 1863 by distraction of common Vereaux, The Chapellle-Hugon and Sancoins. Grossouvre is a small village quite remarkable with a rich past but also a present. • Grossouvre has a rich industrial past with its ironworks in 1791 that 840 workers were working! The forges Grossouvre ceased all activities in 1879 after three centuries of prosperity. A closed in 1882. The main reason is the price of fuel. The coal transport through channels is expensive which prohibits the production of steel competitive. Steelmakers deem it advisable to install the plants near coal mines. Conversely these same channels used to marvel activities related to land as the tile. Grossouvre of the tile is still in full swing.
