Origin of name: Grandval (Villa Granda valle 11th century) explained himself: the great valley.

Grandval was a small fee which, after having undergone over the centuries, various owners was sold by Antoine Le fig then in 1730 to John Damien Teyras, citizens of St. Amant, 12 to 200 pounds.

In the 18th century, as the neighboring villages, Grandval had many craftsmen weavers.

In 1791, at the inability of people to form a municipality, the director of the department proposed the abolition of the common proposal that was not followed.

At the end of the 19th century, apart from a poor farming activity is the only one of seven small mills.

A native son: A Grandval was born in 1812, Annet Lafont, ordained priest in 1840 went to the United States where he played an important role in the spread of Catholic works.

• The church of Saint-Pierre:

• The primitive Romanesque building was replaced in the 15th century by the present church built in granite gray golden country in the tradition of Gothic livradois.
• At the west span more closely supporting the steeple follows a nave of three bays separated by arches which opens on the last side chapels forming the arms of a false transept. The choir polygonal apse is lit by flaming windows.
• The square tower is pierced by two large bays with arch on each of its sides and adorned with gargoyles in the middle of the floor of the bells.
• Portal livradois flamboyant style and a small door lintels, and surmounted by a statue of St. Peter's, opening on the southern facade.
• As furniture can report font stone topped by an arch decorated with three miter heads, a font polygonal stone carved wooden statues painted and gilded 17th century Our Lady of Mercy and Education of the Virgin, a statue of St. Peter's wooden polychrome early 19th century, a polychrome wooden crucifix from the 18th century (Inv. MH 1973). The bronze bells are from 1714 and 1823 (from Bardin, Lyon).
