Gertwiller, capital of gingerbread.

Gertwiller charming little wine village is situated at the foot of Mont Sainte-Odile, between plains and hills vines.

The village, crossed by an important route of communication was a traditional stage for travelers and carriers. It remains relay mail and inns.

Gertwiller is a former village of Empire certified since 1160 and belonged to Strasbourg from 1568 to the Revolution. The name of the village come from the German "Gert" meaning willow (represented on the shield). The know-how and the concentration of bakers in this town have helped to make the gingerbread a cultural and gastronomic specialty of Alsace. Two local companies produce these sweets.

Gewurztraminer, Ambassador of Alsatian wine is the flagship wine of the city, land of origin for his selection to the beginning of the century.
