Near the triangulation point at 339 meters, the village of Fontaines, whose name comes from many sources present on the town, is the highest point of the valleys between Puisaye Ouanne and Loing.

From exploiting ferrier in history, there remains little trace, even more important was the hamlet of BLARD.

The place called "The Three Kings" and the bridge Saurois (Save the King) can establish a relationship with the battle of Fontenoy in 841, which took place on the territory of the neighboring municipality.

Some of the troops commanded by Lothar had established its base camp at the current location of Tabor castle built in 1766.

The church, dedicated to St Lawrence dates from the 12th and 16th centuries, with a nave and one aisle. The sanctuary has a fine 12th-rounded novel. You can see a polychrome wooden statue of the 17th century, dedicated to St. Cherry.

Fontaines was born:

The philosopher Francois Pillon (1830-1914) who was a staff of Pierre Larousse.

Private Clement (1842-1883), poet, journalist.

Fabureau Hubert (1905-1951) Professor, writer, man of letters.

Behind the water tower, along the way to the mill of the Chapel, is a Geodetic (altitude 339 m). A walk on this path offers a vast panorama. Near the town center, the wash of the nineteenth century, fueled by the source of St. Lawrence, is equipped for a pleasant picnic.
