TOWN PRESENTATION

Resort, resort classified winter sports and mountaineering by Decree of 1969, located at the heart of the Alps of Savoy, Flumet occupies the heart of this high valley region of Mont Blanc.

Here the Arly passes peacefully from its source above Megève Flumet up, the old walled city which, with its castle built on a rocky spur at the confluence of the Arly and Arrondine, marked the southern end of Faucigny.

Between Megeve and Flumet, we appreciate the delicious linger offered the road "in the world's most stylish and what is more florid" according to Jacques Lovie, President of the Company Savoisienne History and Archeology.

The Mont Blanc grows beautifully with all its needles in the east, north, the Aravis chain prepares its rocks up to nearly 3000 meters with his famous col paving the way Thônes, Annecy and Geneva. In the South, forests, meadows and plateaus lead on the Col des Saisies and the massive Beaufortain. In the West, a break is marked by deep gorges de l'Arly. This central location in the heart of the Alps, privileged by its environment and its average height, has earned Flumet and Val d'Arly Mont Blanc to be a center for excursions and hikes sought in summer.

Background: Between 1150 and 1200 that built the city of Flumet, huddled around his castle. A wall surrounded by 4 towers protected it; Flumet protected and access Faucigny South. In 1822 the parish of Flumet is attached to the diocese of Annecy, which has not changed since. 1679 was a dramatic year for Flumet. Indeed that year a fire destroyed the heart of the city. Wooden roof (Ancel) were not able to limit the disaster which burned the castle too. Only buildings outside walls are spared. Since 1682, an order of the Chamber of Accounts allowed residents Flumet concerned, rebuild their houses using stone wall and those of the castle. The foundations of buildings overlooking the Arly are the origins of time Flumet. In 1860, when annexation of Savoy to France, administrative boundaries, in contradiction with history, geography and the dominant economy, cut in half (for a maximum north-south) without foundation, the former castellany of Flumet, Canton Township and Flumet Megeve. Thus the real human and economic entity of the Haut Val d'Arly is torn between the departments of Savoie and Haute-Savoie for over 140 years ... The Church of St. Theodule and its belfry tower probably dating from the 12th century. This tower will be located in the east wall. It is a bell remarkable for its very different from the feudal towers bulb or spire typical of the Savoie region.
The Miller's house, hidden in an alley of the old town and located in the picturesque former home of the miller, is a space museum showing the history of a mill that was one of the most important of Savoy.

EVENTS AND CELEBRATIONS

Summer is marked by a succession of events and celebrations of a remarkable authenticity.

The folk group Flumet occurs twice during the summer.
Every first Tuesday in August, the fair Mules and foal together all the farmers of the Val d'Arly, proud to present their best animals, to the delight of guests.
The great festival of the hitch, the penultimate Sunday of August, together with Flumet all horse owners in the Val d'Arly attèlent that their most beautiful animals and their older cars. Period costumes and authentic to date!
