SIGHTSEEING
  • The town of Fains-la-Folie:
  • The Church of Saint Julien Fains-la-Folie: The choir and the vault dating from the late 12th beginning 13th century. The nave was restored in 1892. The altar, marble and stone in the region, was erected in 1893. Inside the statues are made of wood and probably dates from the 15th century. One can observe that of Christ, that of St Julien, St parish patron, soldier martyr who was beheaded and St Etienne. There are two bells, the oldest is called "Mary" and was blessed August 28, 1740. The other named "Juliette Henriette" was consecrated in 1809. The two windows of the choir represent and Eugenie St Ste Foy. Those of the nave, the martyrdom of St Julien, education, St. Louis, St. Joan of Arc listening to her voice and St. Therese of the Child Jesus. From left, Our Lady of Lourdes and St Christophe. The Way of the Cross date from 1896. Some personalities are buried in the village church. The gravestones are visible inside.
  • The moats and towers: In the 18th century, the Sieur de Fain, bearing the title of Marquis John Tunney, lord of the fishmeal and Fain, occupied a mansion built on the foundations of a castle. This house had a floor and walls lair, a fire destroyed it and it was shot down in 1889 to make way for the existing building constructed in 1900. Only the moat remain, two turrets and underground. The farmhouse dates from the reign of Louis 16th and the tithe barn still exists. The church Fains would probably be the chapel because even now a part is enclosed in the current property. The cemetery around the original church was moved Voves road during construction of the nave.
  • La Folie Herbault:
  • The farm fortified was the former residence of the lords of Herbault. Originally there was a castle dating from the 11th century. It was destroyed as it fell into ruin. There are two beautiful caves carved into the rock with arches arches strengthened by stone size. A new castle was built in the 17th century with turrets angle milling and location of muskets. In 1680 the lords of Herbault it gave hospitality to Prince Thomas of Savoy, Count of Soissons, Governor of Champagne and Olympe Mancini, niece of Mazarin, who was the matron of the children of Louis XIV. They married in the Chapel of La Folie Herbault November 16, 1675.
  • La Chapelle Saint Jacques: It is a route of Saint Jacques de Compostela, this small rural church seduced by its careful construction and the elegance of its belfry. It is classified a historical monument since May 1905. Its architectural features show that it was done with one coming in during the 13th century. The chapel, however, presents various alterations and some dates engraved us about these successive transformations. In the 16th century was opened in the south side a large bay networks flamboyant. It will then replace two small lancets identical to that of the bay of choir and one of which left traces of wall paintings hemmed along the splay of the combined Bay. In 1639 we built the north chapel, adjoining the north side of the choir that was then under an open arch. This will cause the piercing mouth of two Gothic lancets. The altar, massive, unadorned, is in stone, as the seat of celebrating that fact with the body wall. The central arch is blocked by a beam supporting a carved crucifix. Since 1978 substantial work was undertaken: blanket, restoration of facades, identification and consolidation of wall paintings, installation and electrification of a new bell: Mary, restoration of classified four statues from the inventory of Goods: Crucifix polychrome wood in 1697, St. Jacques, polychrome stone statue of the 16th century St. Barbara, polychrome stone statue of the 16th century bishop St. (unidentified), polychrome stone statue of 1639.
  • Fains-la-Folie is winning the National Tidy Towns competition for twenty years and in 1999 obtained the label "flower village of France". The municipality grants a special interest in the environment and quality of life both in town and in villages. More than half of the networks are now buried, the interlocking brick sidewalks have been made in the town center, each year new plantings embellish the environment. This pleasant living environment creates a dynamic and encourages people to participate in the development of the structure into compliance with local tradition.
