Overlooking the Durance and hung on his rock, the ancient city of Embrun must Celtic's name to its position (Ebr: water and Dun fortress hill).

Located in a geographical transition zone formed by the valley of the Durance one hand and both sides culminating around 3000 m on the other hand, Embrun, 870 m, has a climate among the driest and sunniest of the Alps . That is why it is rightly dubbed the "Nice of the Alps" because of its temperate climate. Embrun is also surrounded by mountains and unspoilt nature - the town is included in the peripheral area of the Parc National des Ecrins - and stations equipped winter (Les Orres, Risoul, Vars, Réallon Crévoux).

• Notre-Dame du Réal (XII and XIII): Restored 20th century is one of the finest monuments of the Dauphine Alps, the porch is a specimen of Lombard art, stained glass 15th century organs of the late fifteenth century, the altarpiece of the 17th and the font of the 11th century and especially the treasury are also remarkable.
• The house of provosts, facing the archdiocese, is a rare example of Romanesque civil architecture in regular camera and twin windows. A sculpture of a lion in high relief ate a goat on the façade.
• The Tower Brown (XIII) is the only remnant of the medieval walls. Classified, the tower is a square tower of the 12th century.
• The house of Chanonges, Romanesque building from the 13th century.
