  • Dynamic city: More than 300 companies, businesses and artisans. More than 130 associations élancourtoises. 6000 élancourtois play sports in a club or association. Élancourtois 31% are under 19 years.
  • City of history, city of the future ...
  • From the "village" to "modern city": A small village at the turn of the century has turned into Élancourt modern city since its integration into the new city, while retaining its charm.
  • An amazing onomastics: The name "Élancourt" is relatively recent. Certainly, a small rural community were probably limited at the beginning of our era near Trappes, then stage the Roman road leading from Paris to Dreux. But it was not until the 11th century to find traces of defining a common name in its own right: it will be "AgLine Curtis". From both Latin and Germanic, these terms mean "the farm of AgLine enclosed" or "operation of Agil." Over the centuries, the names will continue to evolve in oral transmission. Curtis and AgLine become Herencurtem in 1144, then Elencuria in 1250, in 1472 Ellencourt ultimately, to name current Élancourt in 1757.
  • The demographic boom: In 1472, the small town of Ellencourt reached for the first time a hundred people. The slow evolution of the population will continue until the arrival in 1970 of the new town, synonymous with "population boom" extraordinary after gathering 800 people in five centuries, Élancourt attracts over 8000 people in five years! In 1978, the city already has 15 000 inhabitants! Called Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines in 1970, the new town has been very successful its primary role: stem the rural exodus. For 30 years, Élancourt has become one of the first centers of urban development west of the capital and now has 28 000 inhabitants.
  • A city with three faces: Combining history and modernity, Élancourt today three types of geography.
  • The Village: Nestled in the valley, with its stone houses millstone, the Bassin de la Muette and the Church of St. Medard, the village is evidence of another era. Old buildings and modern live in harmony in a green landscape very much appreciated by residents.
  • The platform: Since 1970, the plateau, located on the southern part of Élancourt, was covered with a modern urbanization. Consists mainly of residences and groups of buildings, the board receives the main public services: Town Hall, library, cinema, city police, shopping centers ...
  • The Key of St. Peter, formerly Belonging to the town of Plaisir, this district was attached to Élancourt in 1983. First Industrial Zone, he quickly transformed to accommodate many residents and provide all necessary local services.
  • Traces of the Past ... Two medieval remains have survived the centuries on the town:
  • The Church of Saint-Médard-style "original novel", whose first stone was laid in the 10th century. Medard, bishop of Noyon and Tournai between the 5th and 6th century, was celebrated by the popular beliefs as "influencing the time" ...
  • On the side of Villedieu, a Commandery of Knights Templar was also retained. Founded in 1180, this place was a step off for pilgrims en route to the Holy Land. There is a chapel which remains the last witness of such medieval throughout the region. In 2006, the Municipality has installed a sculpture of Templar proudly marking the entrance to the city.
  • The coat of arms: In 1973, the municipality launched a public competition to select the image of the city. Of the five proposals, the current coat of arms was chosen. The coat of Élancourt is green as the countryside in the village. The chevron symbolizes the golden roads that cross it. In the middle of the shield, black and white are the colors of the flag of the Templars decorated with the red cross of the Order of Malta. Above, the currency of Byzantine Crusades is represented by three bezants white on a blue background, symbols of Saint-Germain-des-Pres. The two lilies reminiscent of royalty and the Abbey of Saint-Denis.
