Situated right outside the border Puisaye and Land area, Égleny and hamlets offer an atmosphere of peaceful life.

This town is cited as half of the 9th century.

Property of the bishops of Auxerre, the land of Egleny is given by William Seignelay in 1212, his Cathedral Chapter who will lord until the Revolution.

It seems qu'Égleny was a step on the road from Vézelay to Santiago: a Saint-Jacques in the 14th century, carved into a beam, could be used to teach at a shelter for pilgrims.

The original church of the 13th and 14th centuries, built on a mound, was fortified as early as 1370 and surrounded by a wide ditch. The village and the church had to suffer the wars of religion.

Late 19th century because of its age, the church was razed and rebuilt in the Gothic Revival style, very fashionable at that time. It houses the statues of the many chapels have disappeared, especially a 16th century polychrome Pietà. The castle and some houses with wood sides give a pleasant instead with a beautiful fountain.
