Éclance is a Gaulish name meaning "a clearing in the forest. The clearing has become greater than when the name was given and is now a small rural town nestled in the fields and forests. In the 13th and 14th centuries, Eclance has acquired a certain importance in the 16th century was home to two great fairs.
