TOWN PRESENTATION
  • History:
  • Before the birth of Francis Fabié, the absence of any historical event probably reflects the existence of a small peaceful village of Rouergue. One mystery remains, however, the past: In the fallout ray diffuse seeming slow the progression of wood Chantecoucou to Rajol, some trees have failed to file their roots, as if a sacred space held them at bay. Only bush has granted the protection of some remnant stones assembled in under the name "Old Durenque" ...
  • Durenque derives its name from pre-Celtic origin of the river which crosses (originally called "Hard").
  • The discovery of a statue-menhir evidence that the land Durenquois back at least to the Neolithic. There was a dolmen on the land Durenque.
  • Sarcophagi, perhaps Merovingian origin, were discovered in the old cemetery near the church, and the first stone castle dating certainly from the Carolingian period.
  • The village which grew slowly around her in a very flexible feudalism.
  • Several baronies invested the castle from the 12th to the 17th century. It was ransacked during a riot in 1793. A circular tower remained dominant until the last century, but there remains today a square wall.
  • Durenque seems to have remained at the limit, even outside the major areas of religious conflict Cathars and Protestants. The "Old Durenque" would he still served as a shelter for heretics hunted by the plunder and persecution? The foundations seem to be profiling the outline of a fortification. Some think it was the refuge of fleeing Durenquois the plague raging in the 14th century. The riddle remains unanswered ...
  • Residents:
  • Patterned on a relatively stable past the Durenquois recognizes itself in compliance and regularity of life campaigns. Its effect is probably the result of the healthy climate and serene atmosphere. The hospitality and generosity are the loopholes contained a mentality. But the taste for the party abandon him without reserve requirement, and local entertainment rhythm of village life in the merriment.
  • Fully integrated into the family Aveyronnaise, villagers willingly identify themselves around their tower, headquarters of a Sunday rally alive.
  • Parish:
  • The relay is attached to the parish the parish of St Peter and Alrance Giffou centered Réquista. Join in the relay and Cannac Lebous.
  • The church, dedicated to St. Therese, has beautiful stained glass windows depicting the life of the Saint. As such, it has been recognized basilica. Each year in October after a celebration, the relics are revered and many are involved. Its priest, Father Michel Granier, is on site and ensures a Mass every Sunday at eleven. Weekdays offices are also celebrated on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday at nine o'clock.
  • Durenque The rectory was the home of Francis Fabié who donated to the town.
  • Agriculture:
  • While agriculture remains an activity subject to numerous uncertainties, it now offers a relatively comfortable life balance for the region. But the land of heather long remained a difficult medium for cultivation, and poverty conditioned the daily peasant past. It is from the 19th century that the contribution of lime significantly fertilized soil, and culture as livestock found it much improved. Thus, wheat, corn, barley, alfalfa ... gradually encroached on rye and oats.
  • Sheep and cattle perpetuated most of the livestock Durenquois. The pig he has singled.
  • Many fruit trees bloom always on the territory of Durenque, but never did any fruit subject to controlled production. Today there are dozens of farms operating in the town and a farm of apples.
  • Craft:
  • Apart from the presence of some publicans, the story does not report the performance of real trades before the end of the 19th century. Only after that period that the occupations most often related to agriculture but also masons, wheelwrights, shoemakers, millers, bakers ... asserted themselves in their respective specialties.
  • Craftsmen are still very present today Durenque.
  • Curiously, the village became a "small capital" of the shoe. Several companies that are the object of their activity have in fact emerged in Durenque. A cobbler is also always present in the village.
  • With many other companies still Durenque shows its determination to preserve life in all its modernity.

SIGHTSEEING
  • François Fabié Museum, House and Museum Writer Rouergue:
  • At the foot of Durenque on the river that gave its name to the village, the mill Durenque is the birthplace of poet Francois Fabié. "This is my father's house. This is the nest that rocked me."
  • In the late fifties, the poet, who has had brilliant moments of glory, fell into oblivion and his birthplace is threatened with ruin. A handful of Durenquois aware of and literary heritage of this place that cares for the mill was purchased, restored and converted into a museum. This project brought together individuals from diverse backgrounds, literary associations, political, built a network that has reinvented itself and stay alive, tough time.
  • The "Mill Roupeyrac" is the name of literary mill Durenque. A name that gave Francis Fabié when he created his piece "Le Moulin de Roupeyrac" the Third French Theater in Paris on 1 October 1879. The literary name reflects the second nature of the mill family now become "house writer" and as a member of the federation house writer and literary heritage. For several years he was also "Musée du Rouergue.
