Capital of the Gallic tribe of "Duroc, Dreux was the Gallo-Roman, a busy road junction. In the Middle Ages, its castle, one of the most powerful of all the Isle of France, stood as an outpost of the Capetian domain against the power of rival dukes of Normandy. If the city has undergone over the ages, several seats, including those of Henry IV, she has always found, after observing its ruins a new prosperity through business activity and creativity of its inhabitants. But contrary to popular legend from the romantic era in the 19th century and operating a fanciful etymology, Dreux is not the capital of the Druids.
