TOWN PRESENTATION
  • Its location:
  • At the edge of the plateau of Brie, along the Seine ... Draveil The common Draveil belongs to the western edge of the plateau of Brie and along the right bank of the Seine for a distance of 7 km.
  • In north-eastern department of Essonne, about 25 km from Paris, Draveil is part of the district of Evry and develops in an area where urban pressure is still strong.
  • Bordering the north-west of Athis-Mons, Juvisy-sur-Orge Viry-Chatillon and, further south, it borders the cities of Grigny, Ris-Oranges, Soisy-sur-Seine and north, is bordered by Vigneux-sur-Seine.
  • Three historic hamlets ... Its area from 1578 hectares, is composed of three main topographic units corresponding to a particular tenure:
  • Draveil The plateau, located on the upper part is covered by a portion of the forest Sénart bordering the eastern part of the town. Of these 500 hectares, 14 are municipal property, the remainder being classified as state forest - managed by the National Forest.
  • The valley of the Seine and its many water delimiting Draveil west, was formerly dedicated to agriculture and the exploitation of quarries. Today, it remains a preserved natural area. Only a small portion of the valley has been urbanized as a neighborhood of individual homes that developed during the 19th century.
  • On the central part, occupied by the slopes of the valley of the Seine, connecting the plateau to the valley, has developed most of the urbanization of the town. Formerly, people lived on the land products: cereals, vines and vegetable crops. Through the centuries, a city Draveil was sought after for its harmonious environment with a side Sénart forest and its majestic oaks and the other the Seine with its many lakes and rare trees. It was a favorite place for famous people under the Old Regime, then resort to 19th century notables and artists.
  • There are still many vestiges of the past, grouped into three hamlets of the village said downtown, Mainville and Champrosay.
  • Key ...
  • Area of Draveil: 1580 hectares.
  • Population: 29,039 inhabitants on 1 January 2009 (decennial census).
  • Location: 25 miles from Paris.
  • Region: Ile-de-France.
  • Department Essonne.
  • Prefecture: Evry.
  • Altitude: At the bridge Juvisy-sur-Orge: 33 meters. At the parade of neighborhood Mainville: 79 meters.
  • River: The Seine and the Oly ru.
  • History of Draveil ...
  • Enjoying a privileged location in a bend of the Seine and along the forest Sénart Draveil the site is occupied by man since prehistoric times. Many remains bear witness, such as menhir at Mousseaux Stone (Neolithic period between 4000 and 2000 BC) located in the park Mousseaux (Base de Loisirs Port Cherry). Another standing stone has been reported in the district of Mainville, Bird Street, and other signs of prehistoric times have been found along the banks of the Seine (flint weapons, tools, axes, knives).
  • The existence of a mint to Draveil, the Frankish period, is attested by the discovery of gold in the third bearing the name Draverno, found on the territory of the municipality and one copy is retained Cabinet of Medals at the National Library.
  • The origin of the name Draveil dates back to Roman times, Dravernum, a name derived from the Gallic Dracvern name means "the spirit of the alders. It was not until the early 13th century what became the final name of Draveil.
  • The first written records relating to Draveil, date of Dagobert, who, by will, bequeathed the land in 635 Draveil the Basilica of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in Paris, which belonged to the abbey of St. Genevieve.
  • At the beginning of feudalism in the 11th century, this land is owned in part by secular lords (Hugh Draveil 1093, Robert Dravello, XII), partly by the Abbey of St. Genevieve (ChampRoset).
  • The farm Champrosay belonged to the Hotel-Dieu in Paris and served to supply the general hospital. The products of the earth were brought in via the Seine. They were shipped to Port-aux-Malades whose path has kept the name.
  • The manor belonged then to the ladies of the royal abbey of Saint-Louis de Poissy. The Middle Ages was marked by the presence of large abbeys, endowed by the sovereign of land and manorial rights exercised on farmers and growers together in community, Uzelles operator, all wood, scrub and forest rangelands Sénart .
  • Draveil is already divided into three population centers: the center, the heart of the village around the church, cemetery and of the noble ladies of Poissy, and the upper part occupied by Mainvillois, growers, loggers and vegetables; Champrosay , residential setting for the citizens of Paris or the sick in the Hotel-Dieu, overlooking the Seine and the ports of its hillside vineyards and beautiful mansions in stone masonry.
  • In 1720, the ladies of Poissy surrendered their right to a farmer-general, Marin Hague. Great Collector of indirect taxes, it is the lord of the bulk of the soil, through successive acquisitions. Marin Hague had built a magnificent castle, now Paris-garden, center of social life of Draveil.
  • For centuries, the community (and its trustees) managed to preserve its communal lands against the royal and seigneurial justices, and rebuild his church, on the eve of the Revolution.
  • During the revolutionary decade, the Lords give way to notables, who will dominate the 19th century. The steps of the peasants for bread, in 1791, 1792 and 1795, have a common framework for "moderate", which protects the former privileged and favored small local notables.
  • During the 19th century the population increased from 1000 to 2300 inhabitants, without major change despite the railroad serving Juvisy see in 1841.
  • The first subdivision of the Seine is the district of Villa built between 1867 and 1890. Power is disputed between the representatives of growers and artisans on the one hand, and the notables of Champrosay more "Parisian" and "liberals", on the other. Eugene Delacroix, Alphonse Daudet, Felix Nadar are among the illustrious guests of the century resort, near Désiré Dalloz and Paul Lafargue.
  • The 20th century was that of the subdivision and change of status from village to town. Until 1957 dominate the housing estates, the first cooperative city of France, the Paris-Gardens, to the hills of Champrosay, through the "shacks" of the Plaine des Sables. After 1957 alternate sets collective ways, socially differentiated and pavilions. On one side are built Villiers, in 1958, Danton, Brossolette The Mazieres, Bergeries and Oree Sénart in 1966, on the other, Champrosay Park and the River Seine.
  • Today, this paradox Draveil constraints of modern living, such as circulation and lifestyle, and preservation of rural areas, between forest and leisure complex, within 25 kilometers of the capital.
