TOWN PRESENTATION

The first trace back to the year 803 as the Dubileshaim. In the Middle Ages, a part of the password to the bishopric of Strasbourg. Finally in 1422, Diebolsheim is property of the Counts of Andlau. The latter did build a castle in the East Village, beside the Ischert. The current "street Castle" is the last vestige. Village of fishermen and laborers, this small town was once dependent on floods of the Rhine (the largest fall in 1398, 1480, 1910). Since the construction of the Grand Canal of Alsace and the hydroelectric plant (1959-1964) seems ruled out any danger.

Count Jean de Beaumont has been seduced by the charm of the place, and in 1930 built a house very attractive tenant because he was hunting in South Ried and the Rhine. So many leading political, literary and artistic stayed from time to time in the village.

SIGHTSEEING

Diebolsheim is located in the Black Ried where few remaining meadows with their typical flora and fauna specific.

Village to 4 flowers: The town owes its bloom to Mr Abbot Wendling (1906-1990) responsible for souls to come Diebolsheim in 1942.
