TOWN PRESENTATION

The town of Coussac originated from a Gallo-Roman. Seat of a mint in the mid 7th century Coussac saw under the Carolingians, its importance decreases the benefit of Bret, where the foundations of a large compound and two lumps are still buried under the vegetation. It was following the dismantling of this formidable fortress, in 1242, that Coussac recovered a strategic role leading.

The town experienced a century of population growth - its population peaked at 3672 inhabitants in 1901. The extraction of kaolin (started from 1784 to Frougeix) enlivened the campaign coussacoise until the Second World War, earning him the nickname explicit "China's Limousin. Indeed, between Saint Yrieix Coussac and the careers of Kaolin Marcognac, discovered in 1786, originally from Limoges porcelain. Located on the town arédienne, they are probably the first vein of several holdings of the same type that stretched on common Coussac: Marsaguet, and Marsac Pierrefiche representing Marcognac with an alignment where there was still early century, a good quality kaolin. However, over the years this good earth china became more and more scarce, so all operations on the common Coussac-Bonneval were abandoned in the 50s. Today many museums to visit, especially located in Limoges and Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche, we recall this history, not to forget that these quarries have produced much of the Kaolin used for making porcelain.
