The town of Coussac originated from a Gallo-Roman. Seat of a mint in the mid 7th century Coussac saw under the Carolingians, its importance decreases the benefit of Bret, where the foundations of a large compound and two lumps are still buried under the vegetation. The town experienced a century of population growth - its population peaked at 3672 inhabitants in 1901.
