Cousolre has Roman origins, as suggested by the layout of some roads including the great Roman road to Trier Bavay north of the village.
But it is the evocation of the lives of saints who are there illustrated that the village's name is mentioned for the first time. Its existence can be established from the 6th century. Walbert 4th lord frank 7th century has established with his wife Cousolre Bertille. They had two daughters born in St Waudru 612 and St. Aldegonde born in 630, respectively, who founded the cities of Mons and Maubeuge.
Cousolre became a pilgrimage site where Charlemagne would come to pray.
Due to its location on the border as Cousolre devastated many times by the passing troops in the fifteenth, sixteenth to the end of the 17th and early 18th century.
The first signs of activity marble back to the 18th century, during this period many careers opened to the side of a sawmill along the Thure and Hante.
The industry flourished from 1870 to 1914 with a maximum of 74 workshops producing sculptures, fireplaces, clocks?? Many works were exported around the world until about 1960.
Paired with Freienohl (Germany) since 1967 and with Landelies (Belgium) since 1971, is now Cousolre a European dimension.
Cousolre is also the European Capital of pork liver terrine, a brotherhood and values are what is delicious!
- Heritage House North-East-Avesnois, located in the former rectory dating from 1621.
- It houses a tourist office, a showroom which hosts a different artist every month, a cyber center and a conference room.
