Courtalain is a village in the southern department of Eure-et-Loir, situated in a green region traversed by the Yerre, sixteen miles west of Chateaudun, the provincial capital district. Courtalain is part of the community of communes of the three rivers (the sour, and the Dormouse Yerre) which includes all 15 municipalities of the canton of Cloyes-sur-le-Loir.

• The wing of brick that can be seen on the side was built by the Duke Anne Charles Francois de Montmorency in 1802 on his return from exile in England. The decorative aspect of the present castle is due to the sculptor Henry Gaullier who was charged in 1854 to restore it by performing the high parts in a Renaissance style.
• The landscape painter Francis Edmee Ricois to Courtalain born August 29, 1795. At the Salon painting of 1833, he expounded a view of the town of Courtalain, then property of the Duke of Montmorency. At the Salon of 1865, he expounded a view of the castle church and part of the town of Courtalain, home of the last Duke of Montmorency.

• Fair Courtalain:
