Courmangoux is 20 km from Bourg-en-Bresse, on the road Treffort Coligny, at the foot of Mont Myon. This town is bordered to the department of Jura and until 1678 was part of the Franche-Comte, Spanish province.

The municipality covers 1482 hectares, it includes: the village near the church, the hamlets of Chevignat, Roissiat the Courbatière the Teppe and some isolated houses in the direction of Saint-Etienne-du-Bois.

Courmangoux had 1060 inhabitants in 1821 against 476 now. Indeed, the population consisted mainly of vineyards, and in 1874, phylloxera destroyed the vines and caused the decline of this type of culture and the rural exodus.

The hamlets of Roissiat and Chevignat, burned during the War of Franche-Comté to 1630, were reintroduced by the Nazis July 18, 1944. The habitat is nine set aside some restored houses. Courmangoux village escaped the fire, and the "castle" of Chevignat called Piquet house, built just before the revolution the family Goyffon rich watchmakers Bourg-en-Bresse.
