The chief town of Canton is located between two valleys on the back of a ridge that descends to the valley of the Yonne. This site gives it a picturesque appearance? Perched? amid a circus full of props that faces the Irancy. Built probably in the second half of the 14th century, the walls were a sort of parallelogram and were dominated by eleven towers of unequal sizes.
