Located at the confluence of two rivers, on a slope-shaped natural amphitheater near the Lot Valley, Conques offers a heritage rich in history, traditions and cultural life.
In the late 8th century, the hermit Dadon chose this site to withdraw into solitude. Thus arose a Benedictine monastery with the Carolingian dynasty. Thanks to the relics of Saint Foy brought from Agen 866, Conques became a pilgrimage center and a major step on the road to Saint Jacques de Compostella. The cult of the saint spread throughout Western Christendom and donations are increasing in favor of the abbey.
The village, situated around its abbey, built from the 10th century, offers visitors many houses half-timbered facades and covered with slates. The visitor will find places of gastronomic specialties and handicrafts in number.
SIGHTSEEING
Major monument of medieval architectural heritage, the Abbey Conques (eleventh-twelfth century) houses a wealth of Roman sculptures (tympanum of the Last Judgement and narrative capitals) and contemporary works such as Pierre Soulages windows.
The must is the visit of Treasury silver, unique in France, famous for the reliquary statue of Saint Foy. These works of art are among the oldest and most beautiful masterpieces from the Middle Ages. Visitors can also, through the Treasury bill, visit the Museum which houses a collection Fau lapidary from the cloister of religious art, antique furniture and a collection of 17th century tapestries depicting the life of Felletin of Mary Magdalene.
Guided tours offered by the Office of Tourism allow visitors to embrace the rich heritage and history of Conques. The Tourist Office offers season tours of the abbey with an explanation of the eardrum, forums and groups, including a complete tour guide at the Treasury. Thematic tours are offered at certain times of the year.

The music festival planned by the European Centre for Art and Medieval Civilization, exhibitions, courses, themed walks and accompanied, and other events enliven the city and its Conques Township.
The major event is the celebration of Saint Foy on October 6th or the following Sunday, with torchlight procession the day before and grand procession on Sunday with the famous reliquary statue, the Majesty of St. Foy, in the cloister and the abbey.
