The human settlement in the region seems to begin Condomois at the end of prehistory. She gives birth to an indigenous habitat replaced by the 1st century Cities and Gallo-Roman villas.
The medieval period has left many Roman and Gothic ruins (castles and churches), revealing the many religious and secular lordships in the duchy of Gascony divided the country. The Condom depended on the diocese of Agen in 1317 until the creation of the bishopric of Condom.
This is especially the Anglo-French conflict that marks this region with the attachment of Condom in the crown of England in 1152 when the marriage of Eleanor of Aquitaine to Henry Plantagenet king of England. After the Hundred Years War, which did not particularly devastating in the region, the Condom is returned to the French crown and when France was divided into administrative units, placed in the general and stewardship of Bordeaux.
In the 16th century, during the religious wars episode a strong Calvinist infiltration characterizes the region and leads to many conflicts against the Leaguers.
The prosperity of the region will come from the development of vineyards since the early 17th century and 18th century will be quite successful with the planting of many vines encouraged by the Edict of 1766 which authorizes the clearing. The wine is of poor quality then transformed brandy and shipped overland and river (from the Baise Lavardac) to Bayonne and Bordeaux to countries or northern America. During the revolutionary period, the Condom is attached to the department of Gers.
SIGHTSEEING
The Cathedral of St. Peter:
This building is the work of John Marre, who was bishop of Condom from 1497 to 1521.
Church of type "Southern flamboyant," St. Pierre is connected to the bedside of the 14th century Gothic style but more restrained in the development of arches and vaults. The head had been restored by Bernard Alaman, bishop of 1369-1407. Note the portal south which is typical of the flamboyant style.
The Cloister:
The Cloister Condom date for most of its structures from the 19th century.
Some items such as doors opened, one in officialdom and the other on the control, from the 16th century. The Chapel of St. Catherine placed in the East also dates from this period.
The sub-prefecture
This beautiful set in the 16th century chapel of the bishops present concourse of the Tribunal (pushing the back door to admire the stone staircase and wrought iron railing), and the 18th century the great main building and outbuildings that house the Archives and Museum.
We will retain the name of Louis de Milo, who has undertaken the construction of the episcopal palace.
The Museum of Armagnac:
Located in the stables of the Episcopal Palace built by Bishop Milon (1693-1734), the museum presents the history and production phases of water-de-vie d'Armagnac in a unique setting. You can see a very nice loft building facade U arranged around the courtyard. The large vaulted room on the ground floor houses a colossal 18-ton press, the first floor a magnificent exposed beams of chestnut wood supports tiles.
A monumental winepress badgers 18 tons (nineteenth century), an evocation of agricultural techniques, and sections on wine for distillation and cooperage exposed in the outbuildings of the former bishopric.

The Church of St. Bartholomew Pradau:
Located east of the town towards St Puy, this church dating for a few elements still visible from the 13th century, was rebuilt in the 19th century.
A beautiful Romanesque doorway, called the Caps as a recess visible to the bedside, proves it. Note the wooden ceiling and paneled 17th century covering the chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows. A table Smet is maintained inside the church.
Church of the Sacred Art Museum Pradau:
A genuine piece of religious art, the more remarkable since the 17th century church museum of sacred art Pradau portal offers, among other novel says of?? Hoods?? Castle Cassaigne:
Built in 1247 by Montassin of Galard, abbot of Condom, the castle later became the country residence of the bishops of Condom. At the revolution, the palace became state property was then bought by the former superintendent of the bishops. His descendants still own.
