The town is behind a village a little further north and now called Old Colpo. Formerly den of thieves and other bandits feared the people, the town will experience a historic turning point in 1858. Princess Elisa Bacciochi Napoleone (1806-1869) niece of Napoleon and the first cousin of Napoleon III, acquired over 300 hectares of land in the communes of Bignan, and Grand-Champ Saint-Jean-Brévelay.

Colpo is also home to remarkable and little-known megalithic sites: Larcuste, Kerjagu Botsegalo and others.
