Located on the left bank of the Gardon, should Collias origin to the Greeks. The successive occupants have left their mark: the Palaeolithic occupation of the caves, traces pagan and early Christian and Roman in the classified site of the Hermitage.

Almost virgin landscapes of the Gorges du Gardon and huge platters that dominate are a paradise for hikers, horseback or mountain bike, and all river activities conducted there.

Collias was a major center of silk production until the 19th century. It is also the birthplace of the olive "Picholine".
